Large International Photographic Exhibition to come to Droichead Arts Centre
LEGENDARY musician John Martyn plays at Droichead Arts Centre on Friday September 14, and will be joined on stage by Arran Ahmun.
This show is sure to be a sell-out and people are advised to purchase their tickets as soon as they go on sale this weekend for €22.
It’s a great chance to see the songwriter who has become such an integral part of the international music scene, incorporating folk, blues, jazz and even reggae into his unique sound.
Droichead’s intimate setting, full of Boyneside atmosphere, will no doubt be a big hit on Martyn’s Irish tour, with the Drogheda gig one of the few on the East Coast.
John Martyn’s debut album ‘London Conversation’ was released in 1967, and his classic moving album ‘Solid Air’ was written following the death of his close friend Nick Drake. He has released 22 albums and hopes to have another out by the end of 2007. Another moving album ‘Grace and Danger’ was released following his divorce from Beverley Kutner, with whom he recorded many albums.
John has become an influence to many songwriters and guitarist and his stature grows with time and each passing generation of musicians and singer/songwriters.
He is currently resident in Ireland and brings his blend of folk-blues-reggae-ambient-rock music together with his typically Glaswegian sense of humour wherever he plays.
Over the years he has performed with a variety of musicians including Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Phil Collins, Paul Kossoff, Richard Thompson and Steve Winwood amongst others.

Large International Photographic Exhibition to come to Droichead Arts Centre
Conflict InheritedConflict Inherited is a photographic exhibition by three Israeli and three Palestinians photojournalists working for international news agencies. It aims to make the disease of war understandable to the young, especially the intolerance, violence and nationalistic idealisms that lead to conflict. It captures everyday life, relationship and emotions of the people detained in this war.
This exhibition captures the lost voices and moments of people in this war torn divide and how they struggle with everyday life. We hear about the big incidences of bombing and death victims in the media however we don’t hear ordinary people trying to survive doing their everyday business in the aftermath of these tragedies. The media is dominated by violent scenes and politic rhetoric.
In conjunction with the exhibition we are delighted to offer schools a workshop open 20th March by renowned documentary photographer and NCAD lecturer Chris Maguire. He will give a presentation in relation to his own work which spans from Dublin to Bosnia and students are invited to partake of a discussion with the artist. Your class will then be given a guided tour of the exhibition.
Time: 10.30 - 12.00pm Tickets: €3 per student (no charge for teachers)
The exhibition continues from the 27th Feb to 27th March 2007
